Autumn,my favorite season of the year, is just around the corner. This means that lots of fresh and exciting changes are about to be felt all around the house. Firstly, we just moved (we are actually still unpacking) and we are marking a fresh new start. Secondly, we need to plan for all those awesome autumn adventures that we have been looking forward to all year and, thirdly, and most importantly for me, we need to decorate the house appropriately and ensure that everything we need for the season is in place.
The kitchen, which most people agree is the heart of the home, is a good place to start getting ready for fall. Of course there are numerous ways to do this, but here are five of the simplest and best ideas to get you started:
1. Clean your Fridge
Nothing is quite as annoying as having a dirty, messy and congested fridge in your kitchen. So, why not grab a garbage bag and get rid of everything that you do not need in the fridge right from the leftovers that have gone off and down to the half empty condiment jars that haven’t been used in ages? Don’t forget to ensure that the fridge shelves are sparkling. It doesn’t really matter which cleaner you use, just ensure that you rinse it off with hot water. Trust me, you do not want your food smelling or tasting of soap. A clean fridge ultimately eases up the whole process of cooking and makes your kitchen more aesthetically pleasing.
2. Take stock of your baking supplies
There is a lot of baking to be done in autumn and you need to be sure that you are braced for it. It all starts with disposing off any old, expired or unusable ingredients from the previous year then making a list of everything that you will need to replace or add. If you are not sure of the things to get, why not visit: Basic Baking Ingredients for some basic ideas. It would be better to buy things in bulk so as to save some money. But don’t forget to label everything well otherwise you may end up mixing up the wrong ingredients!
3. Upgrade your soap
Getting sick this season is totally unwelcome. We are always in contact with germs, whether we are cooking or just enjoying the outdoors. Washing your hands, and especially before you eat is paramount in keeping sickness away. One of my favorite brands is Softsoap which foams quite well. I especially love their Kitchen Citrus Bliss scent as its refreshing smell makes it perfectly suited for the kitchen. Their bottle is quite pleasing to the eyes and brightens up the whole kitchen. Having a bowl of fresh fruit such as lemon can also do the trick as they freshen up the scent of the kitchen.
4. Redecorate your table to reflect the season
I do not know about you, but I absolutely love it when my mugs and dishes match the season. If you are like me, then its time to add an autumn theme to your kitchen table with fall inspired dishes, runners and placemats. It need not be a complicated affair. A good place to start is to keep away all those colorful plastic cups from the summer and replace them with warmer colors. This will definitely get you in the mood for fall.
5. Discover Fall Flowers
Nothing quite sets the mood for fall like a fall inspired bouquet on the kitchen table/kitchen counter. You need not go to a shop to get this. All you need to do is take a walk in the woods. Not only is it a great family activity, but you are also bound to find everything you need for that fall inspired centerpiece right from fallen branches with colorful leaves and down to berries and flowers.
I sure hope that these ideas will help you get your kitchen ready for fall.
